Cacao Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Recipe

Caffeine on the other hand, is one of the biggest liver loaders, so for optimal energy and vitality, cutting back on coffee could work some wonders.

This is because, when your liver is busy trying to detoxify caffeine, it leaves you with little nutrients to detoxify other substances. 

If your body isn’t able to detoxify toxins, they will continue to recirculate in the body or get stored as body fat.

I'll be the first to admit that I love coffee, however, it also increases the stress load on our body which I saw when measuring my blood sugar levels.

The liver plays an important role in stabilising energy levels within our blood. When the liver is working overtime, it’s ability to stabilise energy slows down, leading to elevated blood sugar levels.

Instead of going cold-turkey on coffee, it's great to find some alternatives to replace that warm hug in a mug. We've put together this deliciously tasty Cacao Hot Chocolate recipe to keep you warm this Winter, plus is full of nurturing antioxidants. 

Serves 2 | GF, DF, RSF

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp raw cacao powder
  • Cacao butter (about the size of a small pea)
  • Sweetener of your choice
  • A dash of cinnamon
  • 2 cups of water

Optional:

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients into a pot
  2. Heat on medium without bringing to the boil for 5 minutes
  3. Stir until the cacao butter is melted and the cacao reaches a smooth consistency
  4. Pour into a mug with a single drop of peppermint essential oil and decorate with gut loving marshmallows
  5. Add heated almond milk if you wish!
